Here’s what August 2020 has brought us! New API 2.0 officially announced. We released the Crowdin plugin for Adobe XD that got featured in the UX Copywriting & Localization collection by Adobe XD. Our plugin for Sketch got significant improvements and now can be used in full to localize the user interface. Many updates improve the translation process in our Editor. We introduced the awaited feature – labels for the source strings that help to categorize the text strings. And there are more features to help you design, develop, bring to global markets, and create documentation for great multilingual products you create.

Here’s a recap of the major updates released for Crowdin and Crowdin Enterprise over the last month. They include new versions of Crowdin CLI and our plugin for Android Studio, unified placeholders for iOS and Android strings, new file formats supported, improved Advanced filter in the Editor, updated integration with Poedit, ability to upload translations for Text and HTML-Based formats, and more. We’re thrilled to share exciting news – there are 100,000 localization projects on Crowdin! Both private and public, small and bigger scale. That span across tech spheres, and are created by teams located worldwide. It’s not only about the numbers though. This milestone hints at something much bigger – most of these projects are continuous. And it’s mind-blowing to understand how many teams and companies have set up ongoing localization cycles with Crowdin.

Today, we’re announcing the public beta of our new product – Crowdin Enterprise. A localization solution for your whole company, including non-technical teams. In these uncertain times, we are inspired to see the open-source community come together to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic. Open-source teams work outside the usual arena and collaborate with scientists, journalists, and medical professionals on projects that cover a wide variety of new areas. From informational dashboards to DIY ventilator designs. And we can’t stay aside. Crowdin launches its initiative for open-source projects that respond to COVID-19 worldwide spread and offers help with localization. Tasks help you assign people to particular files, get the translation done on time, and split work equally. You can create tasks for the people from your project, also, (and it’s new) you can assign tasks to a translation agency. Crowdin introduces a new type of integration with translation vendors. To ensure automation, give translators efficient context, and ability to use localization resources available in Crowdin. The new approach also helps to simplify the payment process. BLEND is the first professional translation agency we're trying out the new type of integration with.

Localization managers tell us every day they’ve been using tasks in Crowdin to arrange the translation process more and more often. There’s a distinct reason for that. With tasks, you can assign files to specific people or split content between translators equally. The more localization teams use tasks in Crowdin, the better the functionality should become. That’s why we decided to improve the way translators work on a specific task in the Editor. There’s now better navigation between tasks and files. Translators can search for strings and translations as well as replace translations only within a task. For offline translation, there’s the ability to download strings from a specific task. Besides, translators now preview the whole file but access only those strings assigned within a task. All to help translators stay focused and managers get the work done on time with less effort.

Agile teams rely on a variety of tools to collaborate and move projects forward. The better the solutions work together, the easier it is to manage information flows and keep up with the updates. Crowdin introduces new notification system and Slack integration to help you stay in the loop. Crowdin updates now become more flexible, clear, and fine-grained. All to make sure you get the right information where you need it.

We’re updating our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy to make them more elaborate, comprehensive and to reflect the growth of our service. These updates will come into effect on March 5, 2018, so we encourage you to review them carefully.

Whether you are a project owner, manager, or translator you can easily contact others within Crowdin. Use Conversations to discuss project reports, decide who should create tasks or upload new files, talk to vendors and more.

This fall, we released a new beta feature — Auto-substitution, which is now successfully out of beta. The main purpose of Auto-substitution is to increase the benefit of using the Translation Memory (TM) by suggesting translations with a higher similarity match. The feature recognizes non-translatable elements (such as tags, HTML entities, placeholders, numbers and more) in translations suggested by TM and if they differ from the ones in the source string feature replaces them.
